What Is It Like Being an Intern at Medline?

First things first, forget all about the stereotypical tasks of an intern. At Medline, I have actual responsibilities and I get to work on real projects and collaborate with other teams. As an intern, I feel trusted, empowered, valued and especially listened to, which is not always a given nowadays.

I started working at Medline in September 2019 as French Communications Intern in Voisins, France, and I am currently finishing a Master’s degree in Communications. This has been one of the most fulfilling professional experiences so far, as I really have the chance to apply what I learn at school to my day-to-day activities at work.

Medline is international and currently has offices in 20 countries worldwide. Working at Medline means being multicultural and getting to collaborate with people from all around the world. This creates a diverse and inclusive working environment and promotes fresh perspective and ideas, and I particularly noticed that during our team meeting in Arnhem (NL), which has been the highlight of my internship.

Working in a multicultural team has its benefits, but sometimes it can be quite challenging as we are working from different countries. Especially during these times where we can hardly meet in person, Microsoft Teams has become (one of) the only way(s) to collaborate on projects. My team and I were able to adapt to the situation and be efficient. We were able to put our agility to the test on a very interesting storytelling project. We had multiple meetings and we worked together to create a good script and storyboard, all via Teams. The goal of this project is to create a short film based on our mascot Ron and the values of Medline he embodies, and we are very excited for you to see it!

Besides collaborating on projects, here is a brief overview of what I do at Medline on a day-to-day basis:

  • Help organise events and work on posters for communications campaigns
  • Write articles for our internal newsletters
  • Contribute to web content, including news and press releases
  • Take care of French/English translations and proofreading.

There is a lot more than just this, which is why a workday hardly ever looks the same. And I can truly say that after a little over a year of working at Medline, I feel like this company truly values relationships. Whether it be with my team or my manager, I always feel like there is a true team spirit.
