Setting the example of what we expect from our suppliers

Medline’s Châteaubriant plant, located in France, was awarded the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) Gold Certificate of Compliance on 16 October 2019.

WRAP is an independent, objective, non-profit team of global social compliance experts dedicated to promoting safe, lawful, humane, and ethical manufacturing around the world through certification and education.1 Its Gold Certificate signifies successful completion of an external audit to demonstrate full compliance with WRAP’s 12 Principles.

Maintaining ethical supply chains is a core pillar of Medline’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. And we use certifications awarded by WRAP to verify that factories in our supply chain respect workers’ labour and human rights, offer fair and decent working conditions and are environmentally friendly. We are in the midst of a multi-year project, started in 2017, to get our first-tier suppliers WRAP certified. These certifications assure our customers that their products are manufactured under humane and safe working conditions. Already, some Medline headwear, boot covers, facemasks and sterilisation wraps are produced in WRAP-certified facilities.

By attaining this certification ourselves, we aim to set an example, not only for our suppliers, but also for the medical device industry as a whole about the importance and necessity of ethical and socially responsible business.

Medline’s newly WRAP-certified facility in Châteaubriant produces more than 3 million customised surgical kits per year, and is our largest manufacturing site in Europe. We are proud to have this additional certification, which complements our existing ISO 14001, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certifications.
