Germany & Austria HR Manager

A strategic and hands-on role role, the Germany & Austria HR Manager provides full lifecycle Human Resources support to the two countries teams. The role is critical in executing our people initiatives, providing great internal customer and business support, establishing solid partnerships and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement.

Main responsibilities:

  • Sets direction, priorities and culture expectations while championing the Medline Values and success factors, by driving the utilization of performance metrics, continuous improvement principles and change management plans, while maximizing employee ownership and engagement
  • Ensures implementation of HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy and Medline values
  • Is the first point of contact for managers in all local strategic and operational HR topics
  • Is the subject matter expert on local employment legislation & compliance; bridges management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues
  • Partners and collaborates with the works council within the framework of company agreements, change processes and all matters requiring interaction and consultation
  • Oversees, manages and strives for continuous improvement on all policies, processes and practices regarding the full employee lifecycle; designs and delivers local HR practices that create and maintain the desired culture and performance
  • Nurtures a positive working environment
  • Identifies the learning, training, and development needs of the organization and deploys effective training plans
  • Provides leaders of people guidance and mentoring. Develops and implements solutions to organizational challenges by leading / coaching others through change. Provides coaching and feedback as needed to help build organizational capability
  • Performs investigations and takes appropriate corrective actions
  • Leads the HR team of an Junior HR Business Partner, HR Team Assistant, HR Recruitment Specialist, plus manages the local apprenticeship program
  • Monitors and manages local HR budget in accordance with Finance guidelines and principles


  • 8+ years of professional experience and successful track record in a similar HR position
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with Works Council in Germany is required
  • Agile, hands on with solid analytical skills and business acumen
  • Performance driven; wants to get the best out of oneself and the company all the time
  • Strong in managing employee relations, with proven ability to successfully drive change and leadership ownership/accountability;
  • Strong working knowledge of employment/labor law
  • Demonstrated HR strategic business partner success in organizational development
  • Experience with HR metrics, HRIS and databases
  • Success in creating and driving effective development, retention and reward programs
  • Committed to employee engagement and continuous improvement
  • A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees to ensure a high level of employee engagement
  • Coaching and mentoring at management level
  • Passionate about HR and about empowering employees
  • Strong attention to detail required ; critical thinking and solid problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization, strength in influencing decision makers and managing expectations
  • Experience identifying and resolving complex issues, will take initiative even under unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances - sense of accountability and sound personal judgment
  • Self-starter, able to quickly see through complexity and take it through
  • Fluent in German and English
